Can I download the software on the Mac Book Pro on my Mac book air without harm to my Mac book air?

My brother has a Mac Book Pro and have also purchased some additional software with it. My father says I can also download other software on my Mac book air, but I fear it will hurt my mac book air. No software is my mac book air ruin if I download the Mac Book Pro?
