In the world of car collecting there are two very distinct methods for collectors. The first is collecting a very specific brand, model, or type of vehicle. The other is choosing to amass cars of all types, models and eras. While being very specific in your car collecting is entirely up to the collector's purview, those that collect classic and vintage cars of all models and eras tend to have their collections appear more impressive. For the latter collectors it would seem that no definitive collection would be complete While today's SUV is much more of a luxury vehicle than an all terrain automobile, in the past that was not exactly the case. Before the modern day sports utility vehicle the only SUV of note was the military jeep. While practical and extremely effective for military usage, particularly in wartime, this specific design did not meet with a great deal of consumer acceptance. As a result, the Jeep CJ (Civilian Jeep) was introduced to the public in 1945. This vehicle was a true off road automobile, bare bones and stripped of its military features, this vehicle was short on comfort but big on all terrain capabilities. For the next 15 years, the Jeep CJ would go unchallenged with no competitor. In the late 1950's, International Harvester began work on an answer for the market dominance of the CJ. In 1960, the first International Harvester Scout hit the market.
While International Harvester had been building trucks since 1907, the off road vehicles were something of a new market endeavor. Fortunately, the Scouts design was an instant hit and well ahead of its time. As a result, finding an International Scout for sale is the dream of not only car collectors world wide, but for off road aficionados today.

The International Harvester Scout encompassed a 19-year production run and in those 19 years, there were approximately 11 different versions. Wood grain trim accent the instrument panel and shifter column as well as polycast wheels with Tahitian red highlights, chrome bumpers and tinted glass just to name a few. Not only is this vehicle rare it also signaled the end of the Scout line.
Another sought after Scout is the Spirit of 76 and the Patriot Scouts that were made by International to celebrate Americas Bicentennial. The Spirit of 76 features a blue soft top with red and blue side applications. It also features a blue interior, racing style steering wheel and 17-inch chrome rally wheels. The Patriot is a hard top version of the Spirit of 76. Like the limited edition RS Scout, the Spirit of 76 and the Patriot Scout models were only made in small numbers. Finding an International scout for sale of these models is extremely rare.
While these particular models are very sought after automobiles for professional and hobbyist collectors world wide, a collector who notices an International scout for sale would be wise to check it out.
