High up in the "noticias de reggaeton" (reggaeton news) sits the top duo of Wisin y Yandel. Known as "the duo of history" and "the dynamic duo," Wisin y Yandel added another concert in Buenos Aires for Sept. 3, 2009 after selling out the first concert at Luna Park for their "Revolution in 360 Degrees" tour. This tour spotlights their album, "The Revolution," which sold a million records worldwide in a single week. The duo perform on a 360-degree stage to allow concertgoers to enjoy their show from all angles.
"Noticias de reggaeton" also report that besides their two performances at Luna Park in Buenos Aires, the duo has confirmed the dates Sept.1 at the Orfeo Stadium in Cordoba and Sept. 4 at the Hippodrome de Rosario in Argentina. Then Wisin y Yandel will continue their tour in South America, presenting their show in Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. On Sept. 17, they will begin a tour of 15 U.S. cities with a concert in Miami, followed by Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Houston and Washington. The tour concludes Dec. 5 with a homecoming concert in their native Puerto Rico.
"This tour has been very large," said Wisin in a "noticias de reggaeton." "It has allowed us to perform in many of the most important arenas of the world and meet fans who have given us much care, but there is nothing more beautiful than to get to our land, after a year so successful, and stand before our people."
The last time the reggaeton duo held a concert in Puerto Rico was in March 2008, when during one of their shows, superstars Daddy Yankee and Don Omar made peace after years of enmity, ending one of reggaeton's most prominent feuds.
"We are planning something awesome because it took nearly two years of our last show at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico. Really we can not wait, because for us it will be like a big celebration among family," said Yandel.
Recently "Abuse," the first single from "The Revolution," was number one on the radio in the United States and Puerto Rico, where it debuted on the Billboard magazine's Hot Latin Songs. "La Revolucion" is also double-platinum disc in the U.S., and Gold in Mexico, Venezuela and the Andean Region (Colombia, Peru and Ecuador). The video of "Abused" has received a nomination as "Best Pop Video" in the MTV Music Video Awards competition. The other nominees in the category "Best Pop Video" are: Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Cobra Starship. The MTV Video Music Awards will be presented live from New York on Sept. 13.
Juan Luis Morera Luna (Wisin) and Llandel Veguilla (Yandel) grew up in Cayey, Puerto Rico, where Wisin was known as "the minstrel boy" and Yandel was a barber. Their dreams of bringing reggaeton music to international heights have succeeded far beyond their expectations, as many "noticias de reggaeton" have reported.
Wisin y Yandel's success with songs like "Rakata," "Pam Pam" and others at the top of the Latin charts have been regular "noticias de reggaeton" on since 2006. They created their own label, W & Y Records in 2006, the same year that they placed 14 songs in Billboard's Top 20 hits. Their label now includes artists such as Tony Dize, Franco El Gorilla, Gladiel, and El Tio. Their rapid success in 2006 led to Wisin y Yandel being invited by the United Nations to participate in the International Peace Concert in Rome, which included artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, Chris Brown, Sean Paul and others.
In June 2008, Wisin y Yandel rocked New York after appearing at Madison Square Garden before a sellout concert that included reggaeton and musicians of other urban music genres such as 50 Cent, David Bisbal, Franco de Vita, Luis Fonsi, Don Omar and Ivy Queen. The next day "the dynamic duo" led the Puerto Rican Day Parade in the Big Apple. They capped 2008 with another "noticias de reggaeton" headline as "Wisin Vs. Yandel: Los Extraterrestres" became the best-selling album of the year in all Latin music.
In April 2008 Wisin y Yandel joined the struggle for peace in Colombia by urging young people to surrender their weapons in exchange for tickets for their concerts.
