How do I get past this bug on Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures?

On the level "The Hunt For Sir Richard" - the first level on "The Last Crusade" I'm right at the end where you have to chase the guy in the boat. You have to ram him, then he jumps on the island where you have to hit him till his hearts disappear. On my game, when iv done this, he runs to the edge of the island, as if a cut scene is going to play, but then the game resumes again and his health is refreshed. when you attack him, he doesn't fight back at all, and when he only has one heart left, the controls go dead so you cant do anything, and the game just stays like that until i find a way of closing the programme. Does anyone have any suggestions what to do?

Restart from your last save and hope that the game will pass over the bug when you fight him again.

Or try fighting him a different way/from a different angle, maybe that will prevent the bug from occurring.
