"You can't solve a problem with the same thinking that created it" Albert Einstein
Sometimes, Einstein has got a point...you have to try an unconventional approach to get the result you want. So, if you have been killing yourself trying to get your head around 'matrices' or the idea, looking for a new way to expand your German vocabulary or just searching for a hook to get you interested in a topic, the following will be useful resources for you. There are countless unconventional studying methods, these are just some of our favourites, enjoy!
I. Maths
Math is tough and any additional resources are usually welcome.
Go to an online video site and type in the name of topic in maths you are studying. Among the search results will be countless experienced teachers, professors and students offering free grinds. One we would particularly recommend is khanacademy
Video games tends to be shunned, but for some simple and fun math exercises you could do worse then look at whats available at the Nintendo DS.
II. Languages
Languages offer the best unconventional approaches since you can whatever you want with a language and, once you are using the language, you are learning it!
Get your favourite TV program in the language you learning, be sure that the language and the subtitles are in the language you wish to learn. Sit back with a dictionary and enjoy!
When it comes to languages the best type of studying is always an active method, where you are actively speaking and listening to a native speaker. There are a number of online forums where you can easily interact with other trying to learn your language and some even allow you to find penpals, email buddies or even chat online in real time.
Parallel Texts: Kill two birds with one stone and get a parallel text - not matter what you are interested in there will be a text to suit you - from X to Y - check out what texts are online and where they are sold.
Language tapes are always an excellent aid. Michel Thomas and Pimsleur have an excellent reputation.
III. Science subjects
If you have a talent for science subjects, the overlap and complimentary nature means that your talent could translate into very high points. Here are some unorthodox ways that you can improve yourself:
There are plenty of people who have knowledge that they are happy to share for free - so if a question like 'how speakers work' has stumped you, then you can check out some websites relevant to your subject.
Get involved - there are plenty of interesting events and competitions for science students in Ireland - like the btyoungscientist award.
