How often can you save in the original Chrono Trigger?
I'm running an emulator for SNES on my computer, but traditional saving isn't working on Chrono Trigger. As an alternative, I'm freezing and unfreezing my game whenever i want to pick it back up again. In order to stay more true to form, I only want to save at times that i know were possible with the actual cartridge. Help me out?
You mean you are savestating?
Firstly check to see if your save file (chrono trigger.smc) is labeled "read only" in [properties] and unclick that option.
If that doesn't work I would suggest you try a better emulator like znes.
However if you just want to save state at appropriate times, the save screen is accessible from the world map (people are little) and save points (blue glowing things). Anywhere you can use a shelter item.
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger pushed the envelope for traditional RPGs by introducing time travel as a major aspect of the game and offering elements that appealed to adults as well as children, that was why Chrono Trigger became the huge classic it is today. Add colorful graphics, a possible thirteen varieties of endings, and a wide array of different characters, and you have a game that many people still play today.
Breath of Fire II
The sequel to the Breath of Fire series makes the list because it goes much more indepth with character storylines. The main character Ryu loses his parents at a young age and teams up with the dog Bow. Together, they join the Rangers and do odd jobs for chump change. The story gets complicated and Bow has to hideout while Ryu embarks on his quest.
Secret of Mana
This game takes out the monotony of turn based battles by making them real time. The enemies appear on screen and you can battle them without changing screens and taking turns. The main character finds the rusty old mana sword, sealing his destiny and role as the slayer of the evil awakened that threatens the world. The wide variety of weapons at your disposal make battles more interesting, though the inventory screen takes some getting used to.
Secret of Evermore
This RPG is pretty close to Secret of Mana in look and feel; battles are real time and dungeons end with the defeat of a large monster boss. Your dog changes according to the setting: the first level is a prehistoric scenario, so your dog looks like a large wolf, and later on in a futuristic level, your dog becomes a machine that shoots lasers.
Final Fantasy III
This game in the series took a huge leap in graphics, the games before it had tiny, wierdly shaped characters and the world was much less detailed. FF3 not only brought great detail to towns and the surrounding areas, but also many more main characters than we were used to. Characters like Cyan, Saban, Setzer and Shadow all had a unique backstory that converged into the quest to defeat Kafka.
Lufia II: Rise of the Sinstrels
Lufia II is actually a prequel to the previous Lufia game. The first Lufia starts you off as Maxim and his pals fighting the four sintrels and Lufia II takes you back to play that story as the hero Maxim. This is your standard RPG, turn based battles, towns, dungeons, and being unable to run.
Super Mario RPG
Probably my favorite game with the word Mario in it, Super Mario RPG takes Mario from the side scrolling platform game we are used to and sticks him in an RPG, and it works. The graphics are stunning for the time, the world is colorful and vibrant, just like the world of Mario is supposed to be. Throughout the game, familiar characters will join your team like Bowser and Peach, along with some fresh faces like Mallow and Geno.
