Humans have begun attempting to colonize other worlds, with one of the planets they decide to settle on being a frozen, windswept orb that's crawling with insect-like aliens. While they believed it to be completely inhospitable at first, they quickly came to realize that the Akrid were able to survive thanks to the precious Thermal Energy stored inside their bodies.
